The Stellenbosch GBV Hub, officially called the Stellenbosch GBV Centre, launched in February 2024, providing a 24/7 service for GBV victims with medical, trauma counselling, and legal support. It houses the Thuthuzela Care Centre, the Ring for Peace Cape Trust (RfPCT) Operational Hub, and Stellenbosch University’s INSPIRE facility for research and training. Located in Ida’s Valley, this collaborative public-private initiative offers emergency care, safe accommodation, legal support, and training programs in response to the ongoing gender-based violence crisis in South Africa.

The GBV Hub Offers:

  • Emergency Medical Care & Trauma Counselling: Victims receive immediate medical assistance and psychological support.
  • Legal Support: The centre assists victims in pursuing legal action against perpetrators.
  • Safe Accommodation: A facility provides safe and temporary housing for survivors.
  • Training & Awareness: The INSPIRE facility offers training and research opportunities focused on preventing gender-based violence and promoting non-violence.
  • Coordinated Support: The Hub serves as a central point for collaboration between various stakeholders, including Stellenbosch University, the RfPCT, the National Prosecuting
Authority, the Department of Social Development, the Department of Health and Wellness, and the South African Police Services.
